ABOUT US

Right in the heart of Friedrichstadt, we're creating a place where people love to come back

The Herzog Friedlich has grown over many years. Formerly known as Herzog Friedrich, the establishment was run as a restaurant and café for decades and was a staple in Friedrichstadt for many people.

Today, we’re a bed-and-breakfast—more personal, quieter, and with a real attention to detail. Many guests have been coming back for years.

Some come for Friedrichstadt. Some come for the North Sea, and some simply come back again and again because they’re friends.

We like the
little things

Flowers from the garden, old blue-and-white plates, thoughtful details, and rooms that tell their very own stories. During select weeks, a classic Hotel Garni stay becomes a little getaway. Then, our guests are taken care of in the afternoon and evening as well—with time, attention, and an atmosphere that makes settling in just a little easier. You can find out more under our “6-Day Getaway.” Perhaps that’s why the Herzog Friedlich is less of a hotel and more of a place you’ll want to return to.

WOCHENENDER:

The small, country-style hotel “Herzog Friedrich” is all about slowing down. The eight double rooms are all individually designed and lovingly furnished with antiques typical of the small townhouses in Friedrichstadt. The most relaxing way to spend an afternoon is in the courtyard, which has been transformed into an enchanted garden paradise. […]

STERN:

In July 2017, *Stern* magazine published a special issue titled “Where the North Sea Is at Its Most Beautiful” which focused on our coastline and the lovely towns along it. Our hotel was featured in the issue as a recommended place to stay in Friedrichstadt.

HAMBURGER ABENDBLATT:

“A particular gem of the hotel is the former courtyard, which the owner has transformed with great effort and love into a beautiful, seemingly wild garden. […] Here you’ll find nooks and crannies where you can while away the day in relaxation on carved benches, chairs or in a beach chair.

[…] Every room is completely different from the next. Whilst guests in one sleep under a high pointed roof with old beams, the next surprises them with a cosy alcove. […]"
